Spamvrij.nl is a Dutch nonprofit anti-spam foundation, maintaining a hotline. It is operational since April 2003.
The general public can submit any Dutch spams that they have received. After due investigation, spam runs are published on the foundation's website (spamvrij.nl), accompanied by relevant background information such as the owner of the advertised website and the abused providers (runs of the last 365 days).
We have two main targets: we make an inventory of the spam that is sent by Dutch companies and we inform all relevant parties about the effects of spam and the way they have to deal with it.
We deal exclusively with Dutch spam: for us it is easier to persuade Dutch companies and organisations to stop sending spam than to try to do the same with Hong Kong based organisations.
We are consulted as expert center on a daily basis. Not only the public has found us; we lobby actively for better anti-spam laws. We also work together with providers and the authorities responsible for the law- enforcement. We have managed to change the policy of quite a number of companies already (last 365 days), even before there was broad awareness of the upcoming anti-spam law.
Spamvrij.nl advises companies, direct marketers and providers on the proper implementation of the anti-spam law and informs the audience about the effects of spam, which range from irritation, more expensive services, the occasional disruption of the Internet itself, and, possibly, the demise of e-mail as a means of open communication.
